Cabaret Tollé

Tue 23 Aug, 2016 - Calls for Submissions

Cabaret Tollé

Mad, rad, and tired of being had? Be part of an evening of artful indignation and creative protest.

On Wednesday December 14, Cabaret Tollé returns for its fourth edition to present an unconventional evening of visionary tantrums hosted at La Sala Rossa.

Originally a response to unethical funding behaviour by Canadian Heritage, and more widely to the troubling climate of austerity in Quebec, in Canada and beyond, Cabaret Tollé has become known as
a place for the Studio 303 community to come together and blow off steam, performing diverse short works responding to the ills of the current political landscape.

Since its launch in February of 2014, radically undisciplined artists have used Cabaret Tollé as a platform to creatively explore grievances of all stripes, from life under the Harper regime, to the student strike, to oppressive ‘beauty’ standards, to violence against sex-workers, to Islamophobia.

Three years and a new federal government later, the more things change the more they stay the same as artists suffer at the hands of neo-liberal cultural policy. Is there a topic or issue that you have
been itching to address on stage? Got an idea, work in progress or ready-made performance that is provocative and stimulating? This is your chance to showcase your most subversive work! Studio 303
is seeking short creations (under 7 minutes) of any discipline, (or better yet, radically undisciplined!) to be performed at the Sala Rossa this December.

Submissions are encouraged from both established and emerging creators. We particularly encourage francophone artists, queer artists, indigenous artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities to apply.

Practical information:
• Public performance is at the Sala Rossa on Wednesday December 14, 2016.
• Performances receive a $200 performance fee (short videos $50)
• Stage performances should not exceed 7 minutes.
• Access info: the venue is up 3 flights of stairs and unfortunately without an elevator. Contact technique@studio303.ca with accessibility questions.
