Susan Stromberg

Originally from Saskatchewan, Susan has lived in Montreal since 1963. After acquiring three university degrees, and publishing a biography on the poet Louis Dudek, her focus turned solely to sculpture. She works in stone, bronze, steel and wood. Stromberg’s style encompasses what is recognizable of her subjects be they plant, animal or human though abstracted to incorporate a mystical quality intrinsic to her work. The artist’s pieces are found in public and private collections worldwide. Her bronze sculptures were selected by the Government of Canada to be presented to former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Russian President, Boris Yeltsin at the Vancouver Summit. Stromberg was awarded the Queen’s Commemorative Medal by the Governor General of Canada for her contribution to the Arts of Canada. Her largest sculpture “Osmosis” is located in the garden at Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s Official Residence in Ottawa. Stromberg was chosen to be the “Featured Artist” of the PBS-TV Art Auction ’98′ and invited to sit on their Board of Directors. Stromberg was invited by the McGill University Library to deliver the 2002 Hugh MacLennan Lecture, on Louis Dudek. December 2007 Stromberg was invited to exhibit her sculpture at the Biennale Internazionale Dell’ Arte Contemporanea Florence, Italy. Appointed by The Canada Council to the Peer Assessment Nomination Jury (2008). In the past years Stromberg has been teaching a Clay class to both Children and Adults each winter. Rather than having Solo Exhibitions, she has concentrated on specific Public and Private commissions. In 2013, she has worked on two major commissions, one of them being for the McGill University Health Centre in Lachine.
